Lincoln's lost tooth

Alaina and Linc are now even in the lost tooth department. His two natal teeth were loose, and he lost one the other day. (to an apple) Alaina scared him of the tooth fairy saying she heard noises and a tinkling by the window, so we had to leave a note asking the tooth fairy not to come the first night, but he braved it the next night and was happy with the result. I think he'll have this little gap for a few years.

Happy Birthday Your Majesty

We (Alaina and I) thought the Queen's Birthday holiday last Monday was a great excuse for a tea party. We had lovely food:

What makes me happy

The kids have this book called "What Makes Me Happy" it has pages like what makes me scared, or nervous, or bored, etc. So I thought I'd share some of what's been making me happy lately.

Because since she learned to say it a week ago, she hasn't stopped.

She has also started saying "happy" just out of the blue, sitting in the back of the car or playing with her toys she'll just say "happy" I can only assume that's because she is, and there is nothing that can make me happier than knowing that.

A big day! and a family walk...

Alaina has been anticipating losing her first tooth for so long! When it came out while she was eating her toast on Wednesday, I don't know who was more excited, me or her! We have had a lot of fun enjoying her excitement. Her adult tooth has been growing up behind it for about a month and it's already moving forward to fill in the gap. Thankfully, though, she has 3 more that are loose, so there will be holey smiles to enjoy for a while!

Also, we've found a great place to take a Sunday walk and this week we brought along the camera.

Mummy Excursion

First, doesn't "excursion" sound way cooler than "field trip"?

I decided Alaina had earned a day off school, so we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary for some learning together. Alaina broke the news to her teacher: "I'm going to Lone Pine tomorrow with Mummy. But don't worry, I'll still do learning!"

We've been to Lone pine quite a few times thanks to a family Christmas present from Gram and Grampa, but this time we had a purpose (questions about the animals that we wanted answered) and the new camera. I'm still learning with it, But I had a lot of fun trying to wrangle the kids and catch it all at the same time.

There are, as the name suggests, plenty of these guys:






But there's so much more. Wandering around, we saw:

And ate:





And sat:



And held:




And fed:



And generally admired:




And learned. We learned the answer to these questions, predetermined by the little scholar: What do goats eat? What do dingos eat? Why are snakes different sizes? and Does a platypus breathe underwater?

Highlights: Lincoln liked holding the guinea pigs, Alaina couldn't get enough of the platypus, I adored the goats, and Elissa just appreciated an excuse to not nap. We had so much fun and the kids were so well behaved. The only issue we had was a pesky bush turkey that was determined to sample our lunch (notice Lincoln refusing to sit at the picnic table) but once Lissa dropped half her sandwich we were able to finish up in relative peace. All around, a very successful excursion.
