I left my heart on School Rd
Today was super exciting and a little bit difficult. Alaina headed off to school with a big smile and a little bit of concern. She felt a little bit shy when we got there, but she met some new friends and started playing with dolls and dress-ups and decided it wasn't such a bad place to stay. She finishes early this week to help her ease into it, which is good since the predicted high for today is 36! (and there's no air conditioning at school)
She's such a big girl, she even got to hold Elissa standing up! And she insisted we take a picture of all three of them since she promised Gram we would.
Here she has a vitamin in her mouth and the sun in her eyes (which might explain Lincoln's expression) but she really was super excited about the day. Her first words to me this morning were "Mummy, today is my first day of school!" and she's started referring to herself as "school girl"It has been a lot quieter here today. No fighting, which is an enormous relief. Alaina is a lot of fun to have around, but also a lot of work sometimes. I'm sure she is going to love going to school and having so many friends to play with. I'm just wondering if my heart can manage being stretched that kilometre or so every day.

With a Moo Moo here...
We found a new favourite FHE activity! Singing Old McDonald had a Farm, puppet show style. (Thanks for the puppets Gram and Grampa!)
How do 2 children work 5 puppets you ask? The chicken is on Alaina's foot. Seriously. I don't know how she does it. Now that we've found the missing Moose puppet, I'm really not sure how it will work. How's your flexibility Linc?

We all had a lot of fun. But be warned if you try to sing this with Lincoln, he will choose a cow every time. Every time. He thinks it's funny to be repetitive.
"What did he have Lincoln?"
giggle giggle "cow!"

I'm squishing your head
I guess he got tired of me telling him to eat his dinner, cause the other day I looked over and Lincoln was "squishing" my head. I have no idea where he got it from but I had to laugh out loud remembering that old tv show we used to watch, with the Canadian comedy troop. I can't remember what it was called. Now I know he has discovered this weapon, I better watch my back.
Three Months
It's bad that I haven't posted anything since her 2 month pictures, but wouldn't you rather stare at this face than a computer screen? It's not always this happy a face, but we find ourselves going to great lengths to keep it as happy as we can. There's not a person in this house that this girl can't cheer up. Even the determined grumpiness of Alaina telling her "stop looking at me like that!" melts away in a matter of minutes.
I wish I had a scanner because she keeps reminding me of a picture I have of myself. It's nice to think something that adorable might look a little like you.

Catching up
A little late, but Elissa's 2 month pictures, taken after a bath and before church on the 20th (close enough)
She seems to be getting so big so fast. Alaina wore this dress at 6 months. She loves knowing Elissa's wearing her old clothes.
It seems she is just irresistible to Lincoln laying there at just the right height for him.
Orvon made a very clever (and yummy) mint ice cream cake for my birthday. Just perfect!
And when the wrapping paper finished flying on Christmas morning, we noticed our best present was stuck in the middle of it all.
Baby Jesus needs a Dummy!
One day I wore Elissa in the sling till she fell asleep, then put her in her bouncy seat for a nap. Excited about Christmas, Alaina was seeing lights everywhere and every baby as Jesus. So when Elissa woke up with the sling around her head, she made the perfect "baby Jesus" for Alaina's pretend.
It was cute to listen to her playing, but I really had to laugh when she yelled "Baby Jesus needs a Dummy!"
Alaina took these pictures herself because she thought Elissa was so cute.

Unimagainable
An event I never imagined I'd experience has occurred. All three children napping at once. If you're wondering how I was able to actually hear myself think in my last post, this is how. Alaina has fallen asleep on her own (in the day) maybe 5 times in her whole life. All due to sickness or jet lag. This time it was sickness. We'd all had coughs and colds but feeling better now. She was going to help me mop the floor, but fell asleep while I was sweeping. Lincoln just crashed like he sometimes does, and Elissa is pretty good about napping anyway.
When these unlikely circumstances occur. I am torn. Should I hurry and try to get a lot of work done? Or should I take the rare opportunity to relax. In this case I decided to finish mopping the floor, do a load of washing, and blog. I nice combination of both. And since we were planning a family picnic at the temple that night, everyone still went to bed that night just fine.
I guess it was hot, or I didn't bother dressing anyone for the day.
